Mud monsters and using fire safely were two areas covered in a Forest School training session held earlier this year. This was a very hands on session and proved both useful and fun.

With Covid, families have not been able to come into Greenfylde First School in Ilminster for their annual make a Christmas decoration morning so this year the challenge has gone virtual. Children have been sent home with a Christmas decoration challenge to complete with their families and once complete, families are encouraged to share their creative talents with the rest

Greenfylde was awash with reindeer, snowmen, Father Christmas and even festive unicorns as children and staff alike put on their Christmas jumpers to support Save the Children, overall raising over £150.

Father Christmas has visited Greenfylde to say hello to the children and inspect the Christmas trees in their classroom. CCTV shared by one of the teachers, showed Father Christmas visiting the classrooms before he turned up at school the next day turning the Forest School log cabin into his own grotto. With Covid restrictions continuing The Minster Christmas Tree Festival has gone virtual but thanks to Ilminster Hair and Beauty you can still see our trees in their window. This year we have trees from Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 1 as well as trees from our pre-schools Sunny-Ile and Cygnets and one from FrOGS (Friends of Greenfylde School).

Puffin class helped out Ilminster Fairtrader this Christmas by creating their tree for The Minster Christmas Tree Festival. This year the tree will be shared online but the community will also have a chance to see the tree as it is displayed in Just Things window. The tree features some Fairtrade coloured reindeer and look out for some very special

Greenfylde classes got involved in the fun of decorating Ilminster when they created displays to go in the old McColls shop for the Ilminster Christmas Lights Committee. A wintery scene now adorns the windows and thanks go to Puffin, Hook, Ashton and Coopers classes for their amazing artwork.

Children in Need day was a bright and colourful one as the challenge to the community was to wear something cheerful whilst raising money to support children nationwide. Overall over £220 was raised by the school and our two pre-schools.

Poems and artwork were hung on our gates to remember all those who have and continue to make, our world a safe place to live. Year 4 watched on the 11th from within the school grounds as wreaths were laid at the memorial in Ilminster and our own wreath was laid by one of our Service family pupils.
