We made three entries for this year’s IMEX Town Council Scarecrow competition for the theme ‘Break Free’. Dove class created a straw Gingerbread Man, Cygnets a glamorous Cinderella and Sunny-Ile a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Fingers crossed for the judging this week!

This week all the classes enjoyed a wellbeing afternoon making creative sunflowers and sunflower poems which will be going on display later this month in The Minster. As part of the Sunflowers of Somerset project children have been planting sunflowers at home and at school and enjoying watching these grow.

This week Key Stage 2 welcomed royalty when King Henry VIII came to their classrooms to talk to them about local history and the Tudors. Children had great fun asking King Henry questions and understanding what life would have been like for them if they had lived in Tudor times.

This week all our EYFS classes in pre-schools and Reception got to meet some amazing creatures from Axe Valley Wildlife Park and hear all about how they are adapted to their habitats. We had some very brave pupils (and staff!) who cuddled land snails, bearded dragons and pythons to name but a few.

This week, Greenfylde held the final via Zoom of the Ilminster Literary Festival Poetry RecitalCompetition. To compete, youngsters had to memorise a poem to perform with expression,intonation and presence to a panel of judges from the Literary Festival committee. Greenfylde School, along with their pre-schools celebrated bedtime stories on Friday 14th May as part of The Book Trust’s efforts to emphasise the importance of bed time stories.  Coker worked out that one story every day  before even the youngest start Reception class, is a grand total of 1460 stories where imagination can be developed and different worlds travelled to!
